Gift cards purchased nationally for use across the Woolworths Group are set to have their expiry date extended to three years.

The national move by Woolworths comes as the NSW Government today announced that it will be mandatory for retailers in the state to honour gift cards, purchased after March 31st next year, for at least three years.

Woolworths Head of Financial Services and Insurance, Chris Cramond said;  “We know that customers love receiving gift cards from friends and family as presents and we understand how frustrating it can be when it expires before it’s been used.

“While we find most customers redeem their cards within three months of the purchase date, we have seen an increase in customers asking for more time than one year to use them.

“By extending the expiry to three years, customers will have greater flexibility to enjoy the use of their gift cards across our Group stores nationally and online, and not just NSW as per the state legislation.”

The three year expiry date nationally on Woolworths Group Gift cards will come into effect for gift cards purchased from March 31st next year.

Woolworths offers a range of gift cards to suit all occasions, including:

WISH Gift Card – Available to redeem at Woolworths Supermarkets, BIG W, Dan Murphy’s, BWS, Cellarmasters and Caltex Woolworths Petrol.

Store Gift Card – Specific cards for use in only one Woolworths Group store including Supermarkets, BIG W, Dan Murphy’s, BWS, Cellarmasters and Caltex Woolworths Petrol.

Essentials Gift Card – Ideal for the family on a budget or a donation to charity, available for use in supermarkets and petrol outlets only.

Groceries Gift Card – Available for purchases on groceries only at Woolworths supermarkets.
