Sally Macdonald, CEO of Australian supermarket Woolworths-owned discount retailer, Big W has resigned from her role after eleven months in the position. David Walker, head of the home improvement business will step in as acting CEO of Big W. In the Q1 of 2016, BIG W’s same-store sales fell by 5.7%, which is a sharper fall than anticipated. Woolworths reported a net loss of $2.4 billion at 30 June 2016.

Her predecessor Alistair McGeorge has resigned in August last year on health grounds merely after 14 months in the job. Ms Macdonald’s decision, according to industry analysts, was linked to the slow progress. Woolworths said Ms Macdonald would lend her support to Mr Walker through the transition.
