Walmart to build milk processing plant by the end of 2017,creating more than 200 jobs in Allen country The plant will use the latest technologies which would be one of the largest in the Industry(250,000 square-foot) is expected to begin this summer and produce great value and Member’s Mark white and chocolate milk for more than 600 Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations in Indiana ,Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Northern Kentucky.
Allen commissioner Nelson Peters said the project will be worth about $180 million and could receive about $1 million incentives an extension of utility from the city.Vice president Tony Airoso of global food sourcing for Walmart said “by operating our own plant and working directly with dairy COOPs in the Midwest, we will further reduce operating costs and pass those savings on to our customers so they can save money.
Indiana State Department of Agriculture, is to grow the state’ industry by increasing the volume of dairy processing and creating market opportunities. Indiana produced more than 4 billion pounds of milk last year but exported only 4 million pounds of milk everyday. Peters said by tying agriculture to economic development, we are admitting the importance of our agricultural base while providing great paying jobs for our citizens. Walmart has more than 38,000 employees in Indiana and operates 10 distribution centers in the state.
