The comparable sales of retail giant Walmart de Mexico (Walmex) registered 4.4% year-on-year growth in January, the company said.The same or comparable sales correspond to those units with more than one year in operation.
Walmex explained that the number of transactions in its stores grew 0.1%, while the average purchase amount per customer rose 4.3%. The firm’s total consolidated sales, which include its operations in Central America, grew 4.6% in the month.
For Central America, the company controlled by US giant Wal-Mart Stores reported a 0.5% increase in its comparable sales in January.
The retailer said that during the first month of 2019 it opened four stores – two in Mexico and two in Central America – for a total of 3,252 units in operation at the end of January.
Shares of Walmex closed on Thursday at 49.59 pesos, with an advance of 0.63%, before the disclosure of the report.
