Waitrose’s new Prosecco festive lip balm becomes a Christmas bestseller

Waitrose’s new Prosecco inspired festive lip balm, has proved such a hit with shoppers it sold out with still three weeks to go before Christmas. The beauty product has been the bestselling lip balm at the supermarket and to meet demand has had to order in more stock, doubling the amount originally ordered.

The flavour of the lip balm was created by an ingredients house who researched the characteristic aroma of the Italian sparkling wine. Using their expertise and knowledge of ingredients, they carried out tastings to closely match the flavour and aroma of Prosecco which were then recreated for the Waitrose beauty product.  The balm, made in the UK, is made using a blend of moisturising and smoothing ‘sweet almond oil’ with ‘gold of pleasure oil’ – derived from camelina seed oil.

Talking about the Prosecco inspired lip balm, which launched at Waitrose last month priced at £2.99, Waitrose Beauty Buyer Mark Steele said, “we know our shoppers love Prosecco so wanted to recreate its flavour in a lip balm ready for the mistletoe season.  It sold out much quicker than expected so have had to double our original order to keep up with demand.”

The new batch of the lip balm is expected to arrive in Waitrose shops from Monday 5th December.

Other Prosecco products have been launched at Waitrose this Christmas including a Prosecco Panettone (which has also had to be reordered after being snapped up by sparkling wine fans) and a Kir Royale Meringue Stack festive dessert made with meringue and Prosecco cream.
