US Foods, an innovative food company and leading distributor, has opened the nation’s first CHEF’STORE in Charlotte. CHEF’STORE is a wholesale, cash-and-carry food and restaurant supply store featuring an assortment of more than 4,000 pantry staples, specialty products and other must-have items for chefs, restaurant owners and other food industry professionals

“From fresh meats and produce to sauté pans and cutlery, CHEF’STORE is the one-stop source for everything restaurant operators need to be successful,” said David Schreibman, executive vice president of strategy and business development, US Foods. “Designed to be easy and intuitive for our customers and to ensure great value, CHEF’STORE makes getting the right products at the right prices easier than ever for chefs and restaurateurs so they always have exactly what they need to keep their kitchens cooking seven days a week.”

The 30,000 square-foot store employs about 30 people and membership is free. CHEF’STORE is conveniently located at 3304 Eastway Drive in Charlotte and easily accessible from anywhere in the area.

“There are many busy chefs and restaurant owners in Charlotte looking for an easier, more convenient way to get the products they need at competitive prices,” said Bob Stout, southeast region president, US Foods. “CHEF’STORE is bright and clean with an intuitive layout and wide aisles for fast, easy maneuvering. Our state-of-the-art ZIP SCAN™ system keeps track of purchases as customers shop so they can quickly and easily check out without wasting time standing in line or even having to remove any products from their cart.”

US Foods CHEF’STORE hosted a grand opening celebration on November 28 and 29 to introduce the store to Charlotte’s chefs. The events featured store tours and cooking demonstrations from Food Network Star finalists Malcolm Mitchell and Penny Davidi, along with local culinary stars, Chef John Morey, executive chef of the Carolina Panthers, Chef Jon Fortes, executive chef of Mimosa Grill and Zink American Kitchen and Chef Robert Marilla, culinary instructor at Central Piedmont Community College. Culinary students from the Johnson & Wales University also participated in the events to gain valuable hands-on cooking experience.

Food safety is a top priority for US Foods and the temperature controlled areas in the store ensure that food is always kept at its proper temperature. In addition, through its Stay Cool™ program, CHEF’STORE provides complimentary freeze gel packs and offers cooler bags and other products to ensure proper food temperature when customers transport perishables.

“Quite simply, CHEF’STORE is going to significantly improve how food industry professionals shop,” Schreibman said. “We’ve designed every aspect of the store to cater to our customers’ needs and make the shopping experience as easy as possible. With products in our store available in case and individual quantities, CHEF’STORE ensures that the quality products our customers need and expect from US Foods will always be available.”
