Leading Internet grocer Peapod.com is expanding convenience for shoppers by offering an alternative to its popular delivery service: Peapod Pick-Up with same-day service available. The company’s second Chicagoland Pick-Up location opens tomorrow, December 4, in Deerfield at 677 Lake Cook Rd. (The first location opened in Palatine in early October.) With this new option, shoppers can order groceries online and schedule a quick grocery pick-up on the way home from work, school or other neighborhood activities.
Customers who live in the Deerfield area will be able to select the pick-up option when placing their orders, choosing the one-hour time slot that is best for them between 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday through Friday, and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday. For a limited time, pick-up orders for next-day or beyond will be offered free of charge (a value of $2.95). Same-day service is available for orders placed before 10 a.m. with pick up after 4 p.m. A $2 premium will be charged for same-day pick-up service.
“Our mission at Peapod is to save our customers time and money – and for many busy families, especially moms, who are always on the go, a quick stop at our pick-up location on the way home is the most convenient option,” said Andrew Parkinson, Peapod president and general manager, who founded the company with his brother, Thomas, in 1989. What started as a small, family-run shopping and delivery service in Illinois has now grown to be the country’s leading Internet grocer, delivering more than 22 million orders across 24 U.S. markets in partnership with Stop & Shop, Giant Food Stores (Giant-Carlisle) and Giant Food (Giant-Landover).
Peapod Pick-Up is fast and easy. Peapod associates greet you at your car, collect your coupons and load your groceries into your vehicle for you – all within five minutes. “There’s no need for you to even get out of your car,” said Parkinson.
Jacalyn Guon is a working mom who’s been using Peapod home delivery for 10 years. “Peapod definitely makes my life easier. I have two active children and a full-time job so timesavers are priceless,” she said. “I love the idea of a Pick-Up option. My husband and I both commute to and from the city from the Deerfield train station. In many instances, it will work really well to swing by the new Pick-Up location on the way home from work or our kids’ activities.”
In addition to the Chicago pick-up sites, the company is also piloting Peapod Pick-Up in New England.
Peapod’s virtual shelves are brimming with more than 12,000 popular- and house-brand products, from grocery basics to farm-fresh produce; restaurant-quality meats and seafood; prepared foods and party trays; deli meats and cheeses, sliced to order; Kosher, organic and specialty foods; office, school and pet supplies; and a variety of beer, wine and beverages [available in select markets]. For an efficient, interactive shopping experience, Peapod intuitively organizes
products and tracks guests’ purchase history. Peapod shoppers can create personal lists, review nutrition facts, sort products by price or by nutritional content, and take advantage of thousands of weekly specials.
