The Center for Co-innovation of the Jar of Mercadona, located in the municipality of Paterna (Valencia) is, according to the Observatory of Innovation in Large Consumption in Spain 2019, prepared by the Institut Cerdà and presented this morning at the headquarters of the Cotec Foundation (Madrid ), one of the main innovations in its sector. The second edition of this Observatory, formed by a panel of independent experts, recognizes the work in the innovation of this space and also highlights products such as Mini Haze Chocolate Bars with crunchy seeds, manufactured by the more total provider Dulces Olmedo, for its novel and a healthy mix of ingredients.
For the Institut Cerdà, the Center for Co-innovation of the Jug of Mercadona, launched in mid-2017 after an initial investment of 3.5 million euros, represents an innovation in the sector because it is at the service of innovation with a vision ” backwards “, counting on the client and the rest of the links in the chain. On an area of 5,700 square meters, this space consists of several units, which highlights the recreation of a supermarket with all products to make “laboratories” (tests), and a set of co-innovation centers that reproduce a kitchen, grill and paella and a cleaning area.
According to the Observatory, this space, uniquely in the European Consumer Goods sector, stands out for having managed to create “a hybrid space” where its workers interact with the products in their natural location and perform all kinds of tests, and where they carry out internal training without Interfere in the daily activity of a store. At a single point, you can perform and manage the entire product development process, from the beginning to its final release in real stores, and implement decisions on the assortment and on the sales space.
