John has 25 years senior management experience across the commercial and public sector within a 38 year career serving the food, agriculture & horticulture industries. He has a strong track record in delivery of business success.

John has strong knowledge and experience of the food sector in the UK and internationally. Working with associate consultants and organisations, he can provide a complete range of services and advice to international clients seeking to develop markets in the UK. This always starts with an initial consultation to fully explore the feasibility of any proposals and identify exactly what is needed and how this might be delivered in the most effective and efficient manner. John is a Cambridge graduate and scholar and was awarded a personal chair (title of Professor) at De Montfort University in 1994. He has spent his whole career in the food and agribusiness sector and in 2004, he was awarded an OBE for services to the industry. He made a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies and holds honorary awards at two UK universities.
John has strong networks within and relating to the food industry and strong commercial experience with a track record of success. He has worked on international assignments for over 20 years including Europe, South America, South Africa, China and the Middle East. He has held a wide number of public appointments including a regional development agency where he chaired an important agribusiness and economic development group. He has been a regular contributor to food industry publications and was chairman of the World Fruit and Vegetable Show. He is an accomplished speaker and has been a keynote speaker at the World Banana and Tropical Fruit conference held in Ecuador for three years running.
Currently he holds two non executive director roles and chairs a DEFRA committee as well as a national organisation representing horticultural interests. He has run successful commercial businesses, is very much a strategic thinker and has particular expertise in the management of change.
