Tesco is repeating what it did last year with breaking up its adverts over time instead of coming out with one big promotion. The first in the series, aired over the weekend, stars Ruth Jones and Ben Miller.
In the advert Ruth’s character is seen shopping in Tesco in November and moaning to herself that “it’s only November.” At this point one could hear Slade’s Merry Christmas Everybody being played. By the end of the advert, she says to her husband Roger, “Bring it on,” to pick up a box of mince pies. Incidentally, bring it on is the message that Tesco wants to pass to its customers.
Michelle McEttrick, Tesco group brand director, said: “As our customers start to make their plans, we want them to know we’re ready to help, no matter what Christmas throws at them. We’ve identified those festive moments our customers experience in the run up to Christmas and used them to create our TV adverts for this year. So however our customers choose to shop with Tesco this festive season, the message is loud and clear: Christmas – bring it on!”
