Leicester- Aldi will provide food and beverages to a community shop that fights poverty.

In order to combat poverty in Leicester, a “community supermarket” will soon sell food and beverages from Aldi shops. On the city’s Stocking Farm estate, the Community Shop was established last year to assist low-income families.

In April, it moved into the former Stocking Farm Youth Centre on Marwood Road, where it now provides meals, low-cost home items, and welfare help. For those who have been worst struck by the present cost of living crisis, the project has proven very beneficial.

National retail chain Ocado and Leicester City Council supported the store, which already carries household names like Tesco, M&S, and Waitrose. Due to fresh packaging, changing seasons, and best before dates, the consumables are frequently declared excess.

As of right now, buyers may purchase some of their favorite Aldi goods as well. It comes after the well-known German grocery chain expanded its collaboration with Company Shop Group. Aldi has committed to send unsold food from its regional distribution centers, including those in the East Midlands, to its stores.

According to a Company Shop Group spokesperson: “In order to handle excess goods from its regional distribution centers, we are now collaborating with Aldi. This will then be supplied to our Community Shops all around the nation, including at Stocking Farm, where products will be sold at a reduced price to support people in need.”
