Sainsbury’s is now stocking 100% British Asparagus Spears as recent good weather has ensured the season for this delicious vegetable has arrived earlier than last year.
British Asparagus is usually available for just eight weeks during April – June. Sainsbury’s new crop has been grown in fields across Herefordshire, Norfolk, Kent and West Sussex.
Julien Roberts, Sainsbury’s asparagus buyer says: “We’re pleased to support our British asparagus growers and to be able to offer customers 100% home-grown Spears in stores. With the typical asparagus growing season being relatively short, I’d encourage customers to take full advantage of the season while it lasts.”
Quick and easy to prepare, lightly steaming and boiling brings out the flavour which can be enjoyed in a number of simple ways:
- With homemade or pre-bought Hollandaise sauce
- Wrapped in prosciutto
- Griddled with olive oil, lemon and parmesan shavings
- Just with melted butter.
