Tuesday, SOCAR Energy Switzerland has opened in Zurich the first fuel station in Switzerland under the brand of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR). According to SOCAR Energy Switzerland, by mid-2013 all the 160 former Esso petrol stations will operate under SOCAR brand.
Walter Steinmann, director of the Federal Energy Office of Switzerland, has stated that with the entry of the Azerbaijani company’s first station into the retail market SOCAR opens a new chapter of the Azerbaijani-Swiss relations on oil and gas supplies, already existing for many years.
Since 1 July 2012 SOCAR fully acquired the remaining shares of ExxonMobils Esso Switzerland GmbH and received the Esso network of petrol stations. Edgar Bachmann, Director General of SOCAR Energy Switzerland, says that the company wants to build a widely premium brand in Switzerland in a short time.
For the development of high-quality service and franchise SOCAR attracted company Migros Migrolino as partners. “The partnership is a win-win situation,” said Herbert Bolliger, head of Migros.
SOCAR plans to open until the end of this year another 13 stations of its brand in the cantons of Zurich, St. Gallen and Vaud.
