The dm, Rossmann and Globus retailers are launching an information campaign this Thursday, which claims to reach half of all households in Germany. Millions of people buy daily from the three retail chains.
The aim of the campaign is to better separate recyclables and reduce waste. On the shelves of the more than 4,000 branches, the three retailers highlight certain plastic products with the help of a logo. The logo, two entwined arrows, blue and red, and the slogan “Recycling together, creating value together” is intended to make it easier for customers to make a purchase decision.
The logo identifies products that “consist of at least 70 percent post-consumer recyclate” (PCR). This is household plastic, usually PET, that has been inside the home of a consumer, such as Coca-Cola bottles.
These can be shredded, processed into granules and then partially into new plastic bottles for cleaning agents, for example. The case creates a cycle for PET plastic. This does not need to be rebuilt from petroleum, which relieves the environment. At dm, the logo receives about 300 out of more than 12,000 products.
