Q Awards for fantastic food products

The Co-operative Food has picked up three Quality Food Awards for its delicious own-brand products.

The Quality Food Awards, held last night (8 November 2012) in London, is an annual awards ceremony for food and drink products on sale in UK grocery outlets, rewarding great flavours, high-quality ingredients, excellent value and outstanding packaging.

The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Stonebaked Cranberry Baguette, which has introduced into the speciality breads range just in time for Christmas, won the main award in the Christmas Cakes, Bakery and Desserts category. The rustic white baguette is studded with sweetened cranberries for a real festive treat, which is perfect with paté. One judge praised the “very sweet hit”, from the cranberry and said the “beautifully soft bread would work well with cheese”.

The Co-operative Truly Irresistible Beef Bourguignon, a classic Gallic recipe of prime Aberdeen Angus beef pieces, borettane onions, mushrooms and bacon lardons in a deep Burgundy red wine sauce, won the Ready Meals Q Award, with one judge praising the “good flavour and beautiful, rich indulgent sauce and melt-in-the-mouth beef”.

And, in the Ready to Cook category, The Co-operative Eat In Piri Piri Spatchcock Chicken, which was introduced into stores earlier this year, picked up the award. The flavour of this chicken dish proved a winner with the judges, who liked the “kick and pleasant after-taste” provided by the piri piri sauce.

Additionally, The Co-operative’s much-loved Truly Irresistible Tarte au Citron – a baked lemon custard tarte made from West Country cream and freshly squeezed lemon juice in an all-butter, sweet pastry case – was highly commended.

The Co-operative’s chilled Truly Irresistible Garden Pea and Shredded Ham Hock Soup was also highly commended in its category. A creamy and hearty soup, this ideal lunchtime treat includes tasty sweet peas and delicious ham hock, and was introduced into Co-operative food stores this autumn.

Kate Jones, Head of Product Development at The Co-operative Food, commented: “These fantastic awards are testimony to the achievements of our hard-working product teams, who are dedicated to delivering great-tasting, great-value products to our shoppers at all times.”
