According to Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus, India is more promising market than China for its products. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, in an interview with Times of India (TOI), said that the company believes India will outdo China in smartphone sales by 2017. OnePlus also considers to make more investments in India in the near future.
Lau said, “In 2017, we expect India to surpass China as our biggest market. It is not easy to capture all the markets at the same time. China is a big market but we would like to focus on one market and capture that country and create a strong platform for us to grow in other countries later on.”
Oneplus would soon start its own manufacturing plant in India. The company has already undertaken a pilot manufacturing project at SriCity, Andhra Pradesh. ”The Indian market is big enough for us to make in India and the government is supportive of local manufacturing. We can react to our customers fast by producing locally,” he added. According to IDC, OnePlus is among the top four premium smartphone brands in India. Lau said that the company will only focus on flagship devices instead of compromising quality by making mid-range phones.
