  • Third distribution warehouse to open in Andover as part of expansion
Online supermarket Ocado has launched a major recruitment drive for 1,798 new permanent staff to join the team before December.

This drive, the biggest ever for the retailer, has been fuelled by the company’s dramatic expansion, led by soaring consumer demand and the boom in online grocery shopping. In its recent Q3 financial results, Ocado announced a sales growth of 17.3%, with gross sales of £272 million in the 12 weeks to 9th August and it now serves more than 471,000 customers across the UK. According to IGD, the UK grocery market was worth £177.5 billion in the year to March 31st 2015 as more and more people discover the ease and convenience of shopping online for groceries.

Roles are available across the country in all areas of the business including: Business Support, Operations, Customer Services, Service Delivery, Human Resources, Development & Engineering, Technology and Planning & Supply chain.

The majority of the vacancies are for Customer Service Team Members (CSTMs). These are drivers who deliver shopping into customers’ homes throughout the week and during all seasons. There are also roles available for personal shoppers, who receive pack and load customers’ orders using highly advanced technical systems.

As a result of continued growth and demand, Ocado today also announces that it is on track for the opening of its third Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC), a highly advanced distribution warehouse, in Andover early next year.
Based in Walworth Business Park, the five floor, 240,000 square foot CFC will be home to 95 of Ocado’s iconic vans, a dedicated tractor park and 22 trailers. It will also have an operating capacity of 70,000 orders per week and will feature the latest Ocado IT systems and advanced technology solutions.
The opening of this CFC will create 700 jobs, making Ocado one of the biggest employers in the Andover area.

Julie Markey, HR Director at Ocado comments: “As our most recent results show, we have been rapidly expanding our business across the country, and we are thrilled to announce the creation of more than 3,000 new permanent UK jobs as a direct result of this growth. Our new recruits, at all levels, will play a vital role in our business and will be the driving force behind our next stage of development so it’s an exciting time to join us.”

Salaries at all levels are highly competitive, with premium rates paid for evening and weekend shifts.  Additional benefits include 15% staff discount, pension schemes, free shares, life assurance, Employee Assistance Programme, Cycle to Work scheme and childcare vouchers.
