New SPAR launches in Tonteg

A family-run shop has been given a new lease of life after joining forces with symbol group SPAR.
Tonteg Stores has been trading for more than 26 years in the town and has been through a series of changes, but is now confident that this conversion will offer the 600 customers they see every day exactly what they are looking for.
To celebrate the renovation, the store held a fun day on Saturday 3rd November which was enjoyed by the local community. Visitors were able to enjoy activities such as face painting, food sampling and competitions as well as treating themselves to a variety of special offers. Children from local primary school Gwaun Celyn were also asked to get involved by taking part in a colouring competition. Winners were announced on the day.
The store was launched at 11am by store owner Mr Akram and his son Amir, supported by the local Independent Councillor Mr Lyndon Walker. Mr Walker announced to the gathering crowd that the Akram family had supported the local community for over 20 years by providing an excellent convenience store and sponsorship of youth teams.
The store is widely known for its generosity in the community as it has recently raised £737.41 for cardiac rehabilitation support group Taff Ely Happy Hearts.
Mr Akram continued: “In such a tough economic climate we’re doing everything we can to offer our customers better value. By changing to SPAR we will be offering a new, extensive fresh range as well as everything else we already sell.”
