Merger talks with Ahold advancing: Delhaize CEO

aholdContinuous discusses on intergrating Delhaize Group and Ahold are making “great advancement,” Frans H. Muller, Delhaize president and CEO, said, with fulfillment of the merger expected by mid-2016.

“Diverse work streams are taking a shot at themes like fund, legal and the working model to make ready for a smooth move,” Muller noted.  He said he and Dick Boer, chairman, president and CEO of Ahold, plan a few road shows in late November and early December “to share our joint energy for this blend and to answer investor questions.”

While joining talks push ahead, Delhaize is centered around daily operations, Muller said, with arrangements to extend its “Easy, Fresh and Affordable” initiative to another Food Lion market in 2016, however he declined to demonstrate where it will be. “It will be a key business sector for us, however we would prefer not to unveil where for competitive reasons,” he clarified.  He said learning from previous installment of the “Simple, Fresh and Affordable” activity at Food Lion stores in the Wilmington and Greenville, N.C., markets offered the organization some assistance with launching the system in Raleigh “out of an in robust position.

“We took a shot at store organization, the layout and new stylistic decor, and we [continue to] learn in transit, which gives our organization a considerable measure of experience [on] how to function with the new offers and new arrangements as we go into the following business sector.”

Amid the call Muller said Hannaford Brothers opened its first littler idea store in North Berwick, Maine, amid the second from last quarter — a 20,000-square-foot store “where we are attempting to have much of our fresh ideas as practically in only half the sales area.”
