Mercadona sells Caladero to the Profand Group

Mercadona will sell 100% of Caladero, a reference company in the tray fish sales segment in Spain, to Grupo Profand, a specialist supplier dedicated to fishing, processing and marketing of seafood, as announced in a statement on Tuesday set.

In this way, the Valencian company completes this stage after having contributed to consolidate the Caladero project for almost a decade, when it assumed the responsibility of leading the fish company until it found an industrial company that assured and gave continuity to the project.

The acquisition of Caladero, pending approval by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC), will allow Profand to boost its growth and consolidate its leadership in Spain in both volume and efficiency and productivity, thanks to the “important “business synergies that you can develop in the short and medium term.

Specifically, Profand, which has eight processing plants located on four continents, incorporates with this operation a new factory to the two factories that it currently has in Spain, and a specialization in fish processes such as salmon, sea bream, sea bass , sardine and trout, which adds to what the company already develops in other traditional products such as sepia, octopus, squid, squid and shrimp, as well as new frozen solutions for heating and ready.
