LIDL TRIUMPHS AT THE GROCER OWN LABEL AWARDS WITH ITS IMPRESSIVE CHEESE SELECTION – BEATING RIVALS AT MORE THAN DOUBLE THE PRICE
Lidl UK has triumphed today at the Grocer Own Label Awards, with impressive wins including British Cheese, Scottish Salmon and Anglesey Truffle.
Twenty-seven of the discount supermarket’s own brand products have today collected the top award in their category, beating rivals with prices that are more than double the amount.
The award wins included Lidl’s Deluxe Somerset Brie in the Blended and Soft Cheese category over key competitors M&S and the Co-Op, showcasing that customers can save almost double by choosing to go with Lidl’s award winning products.
M&S’s Hickory Red comes to £2.60 for 150g, while its Petit Ash comes in at £2.50 for 125g, underlining Lidl’s incredible value with its Deluxe Somerset Brie priced at just 99p for 140g. Lidl’s fruity Deluxe Mature Blue Stilton also scooped one of the top prizes, over M&S and Asda.
The supermarket took away an impressive five wins for its salmon selection, including its Scottish Salmon Roast and Deluxe Salmon Wellington.
Lidl’s slow cooked lamb pie was also recognised as the best in its category, beating competitors such as M&S and the Co-Op.
The impressive wins highlight the retailer’s on-going commitment to offering customers the best quality products at the lowest possible prices.

Following a rigorous two-stage judging process, in which products were judged by a panel of over 50 consumers as well as a panel of industry experts, a total of 86 Lidl products were named as finalists, more than any of the big four supermarkets as well as smaller retailers M&S, Iceland and the Co-op.
The final results were revealed at an esteemed event at the London Hilton, presented by celebrity guest, popular British television and radio presenter, Anneka Rice.
Now in its 12th year, the Grocer Own Label Food & Drink Awards is the world’s biggest own-label competition and rewards the most outstanding products in this category. Lidl’s impressive results reflect growing consumer confidence in Lidl’s own brand products, as well as high quality relationships with the supermarket’s suppliers.
Lidl, which was also crowned ‘Best Supermarket’ in 2016 by readers of Good Housekeeping, has experienced continued growth over the years, as consumers flock to the shop to discover products – two thirds of which are British – ranging from quality British fruit and vegetables, to premiums wines from its much coveted Wine Cellar collections. Over 5.5million British shoppers are now flocking to Lidl each week, half a million more a week than in 2014. Lidl’s success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results demonstrating its continued growth of 17.8% and a new market share high of 5.0%.
