LIDL OWN BRANDS CELEBRATE AT THE 2016 GROCER OWN LABEL AWARDS
Lidl’s own brands dominated the Grocer Own Label Awards today, as the supermarket walked away with a total of 63 medals.
Following a rigorous two-stage judging process, in which products were judged by a panel of over 50 consumers as well as a panel of industry experts, a total of 63 Lidl products were named as finalists, more than any of the big four supermarkets as well as smaller retailers M&S, Iceland and the Co-op.
The final results were revealed at the ‘Oscars’ of the grocery world, hosted by Blur bassist and cheese-maker Alex James. In total Lidl walked away with 15 gold, 12 silver and 36 finalist awards with its Deluxe Freedom Foods Scottish Smoked Salmon, Simply Sumptuous Berries & Cherries Muesli and Deluxe Breaded Cured Ham Slices all winning the top accolade.
Now in its 11th year, the Grocer Own Label Food & Drink Awards reward the most outstanding products in the own-label category. This success reflects consumer confidence in Lidl and shows no sign of slowing, as the latest Kantar World Panel results named the family retailer as the fastest growing supermarket for the 8th month in a row*, reaching a market share high of 4.4%.
Lidl UK Commercial Director, Ryan McDonnell, commented: “This is an tremendous achievement for Lidl UK and a great reward for all of the hard work that goes into ensuring that we can consistently offer our customers the best quality products at the lowest possible prices.”
Lidl’s success at the Grocer Own Label Awards takes the retailer’s awards total well over 1,000**, having been named both Grocer of the Year at the 2015 Grocer Gold Awards, and Supermarket Own-Brand Range of the Year at the International Spirits Challenge 2015.
