Monday, January 21, in the afternoon, activists of the peasant Confederation will demonstrate at Auchan Le Pontet to “defend their rights”.
The Peasant Confederation of Vaucluse organizes an action Monday, January 21st from 3 pm at Auchan Le Pontet. More than 800 farms disappeared in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur
The Confederation states that “the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region is not immune to this long-lasting crisis: in thirty years, the area cultivated with vegetables has decreased by 65% and the orchards have lost 35% of their surface. 2,000 and 2016, 218 vegetable farms and 592 regional tree farms have disappeared “.
Farmers recall that “on one hundred euros of food products bought in supermarkets, only eight euros return to the producer” who is “forced to sell below its cost of production to remain competitive with the competition of imported products”.
The union also warns about the land holdings of large and medium-sized areas that “leads to unbalanced land-use planning.Shops are also victims of the monopoly exercised by supermarkets.”
