Kevin, the carrot is Aldi’s star of this Christmas

German discounter Aldi has a new star for this Christmas. It is Kevin, the carrot. The supermarket has unveiled its advert for the festive season which shows a carrot’s effort to cross a room to meet Santa Claus. Created by McCann UK, actor Jim Broadbent lends his voice for the advert which already has received appreciation from the viewers.

The story is set on the Christmas Eve when Kevin decides to makes his way to the mince pie left for him near a fire place to meet Santa Claus. He makes a risky passage across the table spread with Christmas Day feast. Finally Kevin falls asleep by the pie and wakes up to find it has been hung up on Santa’s sleigh as a lure to make the reindeer go faster.

Aldi will also be selling the carrot, Kevin as a plush toy for £2.99 from 24 November in stores. The supermarket chain announced that profits from this would go to Aldi’s charity of the year, Barnardo’s.

Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi, said: “We’ve had an incredibly successful year at Aldi and our Christmas ad aims to celebrate our award-winning products, commitments to fresh, British, quality produce and of course our show-stopping festive range. We hope viewers enjoy watching Kevin The Carrot’s story as his adventures unfold throughout the season.”
