Kazakhstan president visits the country’s first Carrefour supermarket


President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev visited the country’s first Carrefour hypermarket in Almaty. The recently opened supermarket is located in the building of the shopping center Grand Park Almaty. During his visit, Elbasy purchased some of the domestically produced goods from the supermarket, a local news website Zakon.kz reports.

The recently opened supermarket employs around 450 staff. In an area of ​​8 thousand square meters, Carrefour sells products sourced from more than 500 Kazakh companies, of which 130 -are agricultural products made in Almaty and Almaty region. The share of local content in the hypermarket is about 40-50% of the total range of products.

In Carrefour Kazakhstan is represented by Majid Al Futtaim, which has exclusive rights to the franchise Carrefour in 38 countries in Middle East, Africa and Central Asia. The supermarket is situated in a total area of ​​8 thousand square meters. m is represented by about 30 thousand kinds of products. The total investment amounted to 5 billion tenge, the website says.

It is also reported that the first Leroy Merlin hypermarket and McDonalds restaurant chain in Kazakhstan would be opened in 2018 in Almaty. The country is attracted to many other multinationals as well. Coffee shop chain Starbucks has also shown interest in the region.
