JLL’s Head of UK Retail comments on Homebase store closures

LONDON, 22nd October 2014- Commenting on the Home Retail Group’s announcement of plans to cut their number of Homebase stores by 25 per cent, Tim Vallance head of UK Retail at JLL, said: “E-commerce and urbanisation are two incredibly powerful trends that are re-shaping the retail world and revolutionising the shopping experience. It is no surprise that retailers are evaluating their physical store portfolios in the wake of these changes.

“Retailers have to be able to satisfy consumers in an increasingly virtual and multi-channel world and this makes the store experience vitally important. Stores should integrate physical and digital activities to create an interactive experience with excellent customer service as well as acting as a gateway into a retailer’s brand and identity. Those that have good connectivity and ease of access will perform best. Britain is still a nation of shoppers and that isn’t about to change. Physical retail space just has to offer what the online can’t – experience, interaction and service.”
