Inflation in France : “There will be no red March”

Asked about a possible surge in prices next month, the Minister of Economy and Finance called for not “playing on the fears of the French”, assuring that inflation will come down “by next summer”.

“There is no reason for prices to spike starting in March. There will be no red March.” Interviewed on BFMTV , Bruno Le Maire urged not to “play with the fears of the French.” “It is good to return to reality and keep his cool,” hammered the Minister of Economy and Finance while the annual negotiations between large retailers and manufacturers, concluded no later than March 1, will be all the more tense this year with an inflation that now exceeds 13% in the food.

“We are going through a difficult period” with the “most serious inflationary crisis” since the 1973 oil shock, the Bercy tenant concedes, while guaranteeing that the rise in prices should ebb in our country “by next summer.” “Barring a major international event,” according to Le Maire, France should “return to a powerful growth cycle, particularly around the decarbonization of the economy and the climate transition.

On the subject of the anti-inflation basket originally planned for March, Bruno Le Maire is taking a back seat. “I don’t know if it will be an anti-inflation basket (…) the only thing that matters to me is the purchasing power of our compatriots,” he said without specifying whether the device was maintained, while setting the deadline of March 15 to manage to “put everyone around the table and (…) work around an operational solution.
