6 March 2019 is Frozen Food Day. The culinary public holiday was introduced in 1984 by the American President, Ronald Reagan, as “Frozen Food Day” to pay tribute to the services of the frozen food industry in the USA. In the meantime, the birth of frozen food is recognised internationally too, hence this year the 35th Frozen Food Day is being celebrated. Every two years the most important innovations of the industry are presented at Anuga Frozen Food in the scope of the world’s largest trade fair for food and beverages, Anuga, (5 to 9 October 2019). The frozen food segment is one of the most important innovation drivers both for the retail trade and the out-of-home market.
A comparison of the pro capita consumption in Germany emphasis the triumphal march of the frozen food products. 35 years ago the pro capita consumption was 17.2 kilogrammes and in 2018 it was already around 47 kilogrammes per German citizen – with an upwards tendency. With a turnover share of 12 percent, the frozen food industry is one of the five large sub-sectors of the food industry (Source: German Frozen Food Institute e.V.). The US President had also already recognised the outstanding significance of deep-freezing for the food supply at an early stage. The technological achievement of preserving food using exclusively the use of refrigeration without the addition of preservatives is indispensable today and is additionally reinforced by developments towards more convenience in the area of food.
This also becomes evident at Anuga Frozen Food, which is the central platform for the international frozen food industry. Over 500 suppliers will be presenting the complete international spectrum of products, fields of application and services at the coming Anuga. The offer ranges from fish and meat through to fruit and vegetables as well as ready-made meals in different portions and sizes. The trade fair unites the frozen food industry with the trade and the out-of-home market, because the frozen food segment is one of the most important trendsetters here. The manufacturers are not as successful at developing new products and continually improved solutions that are more convenient for the consumers in hardly any other segment. At Anuga, the international industry regularly presents its innovations for both channels – the food trade and the out-of-home market.
The German Frozen Food Institute, dti, which has been the exclusive partner of Anuga Frozen Food since 2013, will also be represented on-site at the trade fair again to offer important information, dates and facts on the frozen food market.
