Major Supermarket chains in Hungary are conducting an Apple promotional program in its stores that allow shoppers to test and taste the fruit for free. Seven supermarket chains- Aldi, Lidl, Auchan, CBA, Metro, Spar and Tesco takes part in the promotional program organized by the Agricultural Marketing Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture joining hands with the FruitVeB Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Inter professional Organization and Marketing Board, the National Agricultural Association and the National Food Chain Safety Office.
The campaign aims to raise consumer awareness of high-quality domestic apples and familiarize the customer with a rich sense of choice. The promotional program started on October 27 would last for seven weeks until December 10th. Shoppers could taste and learn about the quality of domestic apples during this period. Secretary of State George Czerván agrárgazdaságért said: “Based on the nutritional value, Apples have the most harmonious and balanced composition of fruit. Having said, the domestic consumption of apples a year earlier was about 30 kg / person, there are now only half. ” He added that eating 1-3 apples a day, is good for health.
The government has also launched a School Fruit and vegetable program in which 2157 schools and 551.5 thousand students have so far joined. Hungary has an apple cultivating area of 32 800 hectares, making it the sixth largest producer in Europe.
Lipcsey George, managing director of the AMC, said: “For years, we regularly organize campaigns to encourage the consumption of apples, but this year in collaboration with professional organizations and seven commercial chain stores the program is expected to reach more people than ever”.
