- Foster Refrigerator membership of ETI reflects ‘commitment to the community’
- Workforce of British and international suppliers can gain from Foster Refrigerator requirements on working practices
9th October, 2012: Foster Refrigerator has gained Full membership status of the Ethical Trading Initiative – ETI – in recognition for its on-going programme to ensure the responsible management of environmental and social issues in Foster Refrigerator’s Supply Chain.
The ETI is an alliance of companies, trade and voluntary organisations working in partnership to ensure that the lives of workers are improved worldwide. As a member of the ETI, Foster Refrigerator has developed the Code of Ethical Purchasing as a fundamental part of its corporate and social responsibility; designed to promote safe and fair working conditions, and the responsible management of environmental and social issues in Foster Refrigerator’s Supply Chain.
“Foster Refrigerator is a significant employer in the Kings Lynn area, both in our own facilities and with suppliers and contractors, which means that we have a deep-rooted commitment to the community,” said Paul Veried, Managing Director of Foster Refrigerator.
“As a world-leading business we are proud to be British and take the duty of care we owe to our staff, their families and the wider community extremely seriously. The ETI Code of Ethical Purchasing clearly sets out the standards we wish to achieve for our business with the help of our suppliers to ensure that business is conducted in the most responsible way”
Whilst Foster strives to source locally in the UK it must be appreciated that to remain competitive both Foster and its supply base has become more global in sourcing decisions.
This drives many layers of supply for Foster’s products, and several of these are sourced in developing countries. Through its association with the ETI, Foster contributes to a broad commitment towards social responsibility not only in the UK but also overseas.
Only by fully understanding, monitoring and managing the supply chain and the various tiers within it, can Foster be assured its own internal standards are being met and that the issues of workers’ lives be acknowledged, understood and ultimately improved through their involvement with the company.
