May 8, 2018 – Food Lion is announcing more fresh changes. The brand said last week that it will remodel 105 stores in the greater Norfolk, Virginia, market this year, making a $168 million (€141 million) capital investment to renovate the stores, lower prices, expand product assortment and hire approximately 5,000 new associates.
The investment will also include promoting some current associates and creating additional community partnerships through Food Lion Feeds, the brand’s Food Lion’s hunger-relief initiative.
“Food Lion has been nourishing our neighbors in the greater Norfolk market for nearly 40 years, and we are excited to bring our newest shopping experience to this community,” said Food Lion President Meg Ham. “With every change, we have kept our customers at the forefront because we want to ensure they can easily find fresh, quality products to nourish their families at affordable prices every day, delivered with caring, friendly service every time they shop.”
Each of the 105 stores will maintain normal operating hours during the remodel process. Once complete this fall, all of the locations will be easier to navigate and shop and offer an expanded customer-centric product assortment including local, natural, organic and gluten-free items. The stores will also feature new registers and enhanced service, the result of associate training at every store.
All of Food Lion’s produce departments in the Norfolk market will offer more organic options, with select stores offering convenient, fresh-cut fruits and vegetables prepared in-house daily. Twelve of the stores will also have walk-in garden coolers designed to keep produce fresher longer. Additionally, six stores will have expanded deli departments featuring items such as handmade artisan pizza, wings and premium coffee.
In the last four years, Food Lion has remodeled 544 of its more than 1,000 stores across its 10-state operating area as part of its “Easy, Fresh and Affordable…You Can Count on Food Lion Every Day!” strategy.
