Del Monte plans Middle East expansion

Del Monte, North American food production and distribution company has announced its plans to launch catering activities in Saudi Arabia and UAE. The company is expected to target large corporations, Educational and Medical Institutions along with Governmental firms while extending its operation in the Middle East. Del Monte plans to acquire a fleet of around 50 trucks for distribution across the region. In addition, they would require a man force of more than 300 skilled workers for their production and sales team.

Mohammed Abbas, Del Monte’s Vice-President in the MENA region, said: “This is a natural evolution from our extensive knowledge and experience built up over years in handling delicate ready to consume fresh products such as fresh cut fruits, salads, vegetables, and freshly squeezed juices. With our facilities and operations spread across the GCC we can take advantage of the proximity to our customers to accommodate and offer a diverse offering on a daily basis.”

Del Monte is primarily focusing on ecofriendly alternatives for its energy source with more than 45 of its truck running on biodiesel that claims to reduce carbon dioxide emission by 80 percent. The food company also plans to enhance its meal offerings in the GCC with introducing lower calorie meals. Currently they have 5 low calorie meals available in fish, chicken and veggie with less than 400 calories per serving.
