The parent company of drugstore DA, DA Retail Group goes bankrupt. Last week, the company asked to defer payment at the court in Amsterdam. That was a request for DA headquarters and seven drugstores that DA operates itself. Teunis Meijer law firm Ludwig & Van Dam received confirmation from the company trustee. The court ordered the suspension of payments and declared DA retail bankrupt. Having said, he disclosed that he has not received any formal notice from DA headquarters.
There are a total of 212 people working in company’s head office and the stores that are now officially bankrupt. The chain also has about 266 franchise entrepreneurs. Those are independent and are not directly affected by the problems of its parent company. It may be possible that the supply of products to the franchisees falters now. The entrepreneurs receive much of their products through the head office. Majority of the stores would remain open as usual.
Ronald Rodenburg, a franchiser said that they are still positive about the outcome and anticipated that it would not affect the delivery. Rodenburg included that franchisers like him can get stocks at the right time from other wholesalers. The consumer should have minimal marks. The brand has a long history of 73 years, it is an icon in the market.
