now Lidl has also made it to the center of the federal capital: on Thursday, the discounter will open its 13th branch in the canton and the first on Berner Stadtboden. BLICK was able to get an idea of the development of the building cooperative Terra Bern at Schlossstrasse 115b.

First impression: As big as in the Zurich city in the former Fraumünsterpost Lidl does not arrive in Bern. After all, the German discounter has invested 2.5 million francs in the Bern store. The interior of the store with a sales area of around 750 square meters is similar to that of the larger shops in the agglomerations: fruit and vegetables at the entrance, followed by bread, meat and dairy products. Finally, some non-food items.

The cooperative Terra Bern is pleased about the new tenant. Not only because the shopping path is getting shorter. Lidl rents the location for the next ten years. Georg Volz (52), managing director of the cooperative, says that Lidl is also a good tenant from a financial point of view.

The discounter has taken over the building in the raw state. This, although the previous tenant was also a retailer. After four months of renovation, the new branch is now ready. The discount store now operates 125 branches throughout Switzerland with its Bernese city branch.
