Majid Al Futtaim, the main shopping center, retail and leisure pioneer over the Middle East and North Africa, has reported plans to open 10 new Carrefour stores in the UAE one year from now. Doing this, Majid Al Futtaim plans to reach its target of setting up 140 hypermarkets and 210 grocery stores in the nations in which it operates by 2018.
Carrefour, franchised by Majid Al Futtaim in 38 centers over the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia, will open two hypermarkets and eight grocery stores over the emirates one year from now as it hopes to take care of the escalating demand for comfort shopping.
The declaration comes as Carrefour is denoting its 10-day anniversary celebrations in hypermarkets and stores accross the UAE. “This week marks 21 years since Majid Al Futtaim introduced the Carrefour hypermarket concept to the UAE and the wider region as part of its vision to create great moments for everyone, every day. Since then, the brand has become synonymous with providing customers with unbeatable value and choice,” he remarked.
“We are proud to continue that tradition through the current in-store promotions to celebrate our anniversary. During our ten day anniversary promotion in 2015, we served more than three million customers, a figure we are targeting to increase 15 per cent this year,” said Miguel Povedano, Executive Regional Director for Carrefour UAE.
“In the last two decades we have witnessed a number of retail trends emerge, including increasing demand for smaller supermarket-style stores in recent years. We will continue to grow the hypermarket brand in the UAE with the addition of two more hypermarkets and address the growing trend for smaller convenient stores through the introduction of eight new supermarkets. We also look forward to extending our home delivery service, which we are currently testing in selected areas in Dubai,” he added.
