Having now extended its local coverage across the whole country, on Tuesday 4 December Carrefour opened its 1000th convenience store in France under the Carrefour Contact banner in Poey-de-Lescar (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).
Carrefour’s convenience stores are usually located in the heart of urban areas or at the entrances to small towns and villages. They offer a wide selection of national brand and Carrefour own-brand fresh produce and groceries at reasonable prices and a range of extra non-food products. They also boast a number of other features, such as long opening hours.
“Reaching such a milestone with the 1000th Carrefour convenience store is evidence of just how successful our concepts are. Concepts that provide our customers – whose chief concerns are saving time and better managing their budget – with a real solution”, says Gérard Dorey, Carrefour Convenience’s Executive Director. And I’m delighted that this new store is being opened in Poey-de-Lescar, a small village in the Pyrénées Atlantique region, because it is proof of just how well-established we are outside the capital and of how much we contribute to local business”.
Carrefour Contact, the new everyday store for the people of Poey-de-Lescar.
Located just at the entrance of this small village, Poey-de-Lescar’s Carrefour Contact store has been designed to meet the day-to-day requirements of the local population. It has a wide selection of fresh products, a butcher’s section and a range of groceries – everything people need to prepare their meals or for any emergency purchases. Open from 8 AM to 8 PM, Monday to Saturday, and from 9 AM on Sundays, the store also features the richness of Carrefour’s own-brand product range. Furthermore, it is a member of the same loyalty programme that customers can take advantage of in all the other banners that make up the Group.
With a total sales area of 670 m², the Poey-de-Lescar Carrefour Contact store, based at 3 rue Principale, opened its doors on 5 December 2012, creating 8 new jobs in the process.
Poey-de-Lescar’s baker behind the project
Monsieur Marin – Poey-de-Lescar’s local baker who is renowned for his expertise and his use of traditional baking methods – wanted to give people living in the commune access to a range of high-quality products in addition to the more traditional products that he sells. In order to do this, he decided to build premises adjoining his bakery in order to accommodate a major retailer’s convenience store, thus meeting the requirements of the population and generating a true local business dynamic. Monsieur Marin eventually decided to set up a Carrefour Contact store. And as evidence of the synergy that exists between the two retailers, the baker supplies the Carrefour Contact store with his excellent bread.
