Carrefour is gearing up for the 31st Small Change campaign

From 8 January through to 15 February 2020, Carrefour stores throughout France will be asking customers and employees for donations to support its “Small Change” campaign. This is the first edition of the campaign under the presidency of Brigitte Macron; Didier Deschamps, manager of France’s national football team, is staying on as the campaign’s sponsor.

An iconic charity initiative in France
Over the past 31 years, the Small Change campaign has become a major charity initiative for people in France. Since it was launched, it has raised nearly €98 million and financed more than 8900 projects to improve the day-to-day lives of young patients in France’s state-run hospitals.
It helps to improve the welcome and comfort that children and teenagers get when they are hospitalised, and has been used to finance facilities for parents and parent-child rooms in hospitals, bringing families closer to where their children are in hospital.

Carrefour: long-time partner of the Small Change campaign
Carrefour is the only retail partners of the Small Change campaign, which runs in all stores, irrespective of format (hypermarkets, Market, City, Contact and Express stores). A number of new features are being introduced for the 2020 edition: customers will be able to make donations directly at the checkout via a €2 coupon, and in a number of hypermarkets, terminals will be provided (usually used to convert coins and purchase coupons), so they can donate directly to the Foundation.

Traditional piggy banks will still be available at all Carrefour sales outlets: more than 98,000 small ones and 290 giant ones.

For the 18th year running, Carrefour is one of the Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France foundation’s partners for the Small Change campaign, which is aiming this year to fund even more projects to improve the day-to-day living conditions of sick children and teenagers in hospitals. Since 2003, retailer has collected 151 tonnes of coins, enabling it to donate a total of €1,661,000.

Carrefour – a retailer that’s involved all year round
Carrefour is involved in numerous aid campaigns via its stores, providing support in the form of food donations, equipment or funding for many organisations in the charity sector.
For many years now, Carrefour’s teams have been getting involved in and investing in the charity sector, supporting numerous campaigns such as the Boucles du Cœur, Food Banks, the Secours populaire français, the Restos du Cœur, the Neurodon neurological research foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon.
