Carrefour and its Foundation have made a direct donation of 29,076 kilos of food to the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL), as a result of the equalization commitment acquired by the company during the ‘Operation Kilo Hypermarkets’.

To this amount must be added the contribution made by customers in the four hypermarkets of the Autonomous Community. In this way, and in just one weekend, the company has delivered to the Bank of Cantabria a total of 58,152 kilos of food, with the aim of helping to alleviate the most urgent needs of people in a situation of social disadvantage.

The commitment of equalization subscribed, year after year, by the company makes the ‘Operation Kilo Hypermarkets Carrefour’ one of the most significant annual contributions that the different Food Banks have when filling their warehouses for the benefit of the people most in need

For the development of this initiative, it was necessary to provide a pick-up point attended by volunteers from the different Food Banks in each of the participating Carrefour centers.

Subsequently, these local banks will be responsible for distributing both the food donated by Carrefour and those delivered by their customers among its 7,364 beneficiary social entities, which in turn serve about 1,200,000 people in vulnerable situations.

In just one weekend and nationally, Carrefour and its customers have delivered to the Spanish Federation of Food Banks a total of 1,681,969 kilos that will be distributed among its 55 food banks, with the aim of helping to alleviate the basic needs of more than 16,000 people in social emergency.
