British bakers vote aldi’s mince pies and christmas puddings the best this christmas

Aldi wins three awards at the British Baker Christmas Star Awards, with a further five products Highly Commended

Discount supermarket Aldi’s mince pies have been voted the best at the British Baker Christmas Star Awards, with the supermarket scooping both Winner and Highly Commended in the Mince Pies category, and Winner in the Gluten Free category.

Described by Judge and Food Marketing expert Vhari Russell, as “way ahead of the market leaders in terms of innovation, taste and texture,” Aldi’s Specially Selected Exquisite Mince Pies (£2.99) are hand-crafted to combine deliciously thin all-butter pastry, fragrant frangipane and a delectable mincemeat of juicy raisins, sultanas, currants and glacé cherries.

Dominating the results, Aldi also walked away with the Highly Commended award for their Specially Selected Gingerbread Topped Mince Pies (£1.49). This special recipe combines a shortcrust butter crumb pastry, with a bold twist of tangy gingerbread to top it off.

Showing that they’ve thought of everyone this Christmas, Aldi also scooped the win for their Gluten Free Mince Pies, the combination of sweet, crisp pastry and moist mincemeat impressed on taste, texture, and value, with Judge Peter Sidwell, from ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery, describing it as “a really well baked, delicious product – executed well.”

Securing its place as the destination for festive baking, Aldi rose to the challenge in the puddings category, being named Winner for its Specially Selected Golden Topped Christmas Pudding (£7.99). This extra special twist on a seasonal favourite was voted into the top spot following a unanimous decision from the judges. A gloriously sticky pudding, it’s made with the finest vine fruits, cherries, and pecans, and is steeped in stout, port, brandy, and orange liqueur. It’s final wow-factor, a golden glitter sparkle, making sure it’ll be a showstopper at any Christmas spread.

Doing the double once again, Aldi’s Specially Selected Exquisite Pudding (£9.99) was Highly Commended. An old family recipe hand crafted by luxury pudding makers in the Isle of Man, topped with black cherries and featuring comforting hints of cognac and spices. Aldi also won Highly Commended for its Specially Selected Exquisite Panettone (£6.99), Specially Selected Luxury Topped Stollen (£3.99), and Specially Selected Exquisite Spelt & Chive Crackers (£1.99).
