Scandinavia’s leading supermarket chain, ICA, has chosen bespoke Rolec EV charging points for its Swedish stores.

ICA, which has supermarkets throughout Scandinavia and Europe, required corporate branded EV charging units featuring payment methods that could be both flexible and future-proof.

Rolec EV was one of only a few manufacturers in the world capable of undertaking this project in order to meet the specifications required by Sweden’s largest food retailer.

The EV charging points are now available for customers to use at ICA in the city of Uppsala, and are currently being installed at the city of Örebro’s store too – with a plan for further charging units appearing at other stores in the future.

The charging points feature bespoke management systems so customers can plug in their vehicle, enter the supermarket, state the bay they are parked in and the supermarket can start the charging process.

ICA’s charging pedestals are also the first to feature Rolec’s new flush tamper-proof magnetic lock down sockets, making the units highly secure.

Rolec EV Business Development Manager Bianca Alsop-Orrey commented: “We were able to match ICA’s exact branding requirements, using the guidelines given to us by the stores.

“The future-proof EV charging pedestals we supplied give ICA the ability to change the way customers pay to charge their EVs due to the payment system facia having the ability to be altered at any time to suit our Tap-n-Charge system, should the client wish to do so.

“Rolec’s Tap-n-Charge pay to charge RFID/bank card system facilitates Europay, MasterCard and Visa, as well as Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies. These universal payment methods are unique to Rolec’s AutoCharge midi pedestals – we believe they are the future of EV charging.”
