Barry Williams has politely rejected his upcoming position with Morrisons and will not join the same, but instead he decided to join Poundland as its new trading director. Mr Williams was about to begin his role as Morrisons ambient trading director in February but will now work at Poundland from November 14. He will be replacing Simon Twigger who is moving to Steinhoff International which is the parent company that acquired the remaining 75 per cent of Poundland that didn’t already own for £466 million last month.
Mr Williams was previously the chief customer officer of Asda which he left earlier this year. Anyhow, he decided to work with Poundland instead of Morrisons due to the flexibility of the former’s headquarters to his family home in the Midlands. In a humble mood he told that the last 10 months have made him realise being close with his family home is more important and he would like to thank Morrisons for better understanding his reasons for not returning to Yorkshire at this stage.
