Asda customers now have to drive to the nearest Asda in Soham to get their groceries from their favorite retailer since the one in Newmarket is closing its doors.

Asda’s spokesman explained the reason of the closing due to the underperformance of the store. Senior vice president of operations for Asda, Anthony Hemmerdinger, said; “Despite the very best efforts of our colleagues in Asda Newmarket the store sadly continues to under perform in a tough market. The store site has recently reached the expiry of its current lease and so it made sense for us to consider its future.”

Some of the former 39 staff of Asda Newmarket will be offered an opportunity to work in other locations, but not for all of them, others will just discuss some ways of compensation.
