Asda scooped the top gong at Quality Food Awards, walking off with the Retailer of the Year 2016 honour, while Aldi won the same accolade in the Quality Drinks Awards, being crowned Drinks Retailer of the Year. Marks and Spencer, meanwhile, won the Overall Gold Q for its Salmon Medallions, while Asda was awarded top place in the value section with its Smart Price Toffee. The Christmas Gold Q, was won by Iceland for its Luxury Mince Pies/Bright Blue Foods.
To celebrate the winners of the much-coveted awards, the great and good of the grocery world donned their glad rags and gathered in the Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House Hotel for a glittering gala dinner.Celebrity chef and TV presenter Simon Rimmer and award-winning chocolatier and pattissiere Will Torrent did the honours on the hosting front during the dinner, which had been preceded by the Small Producer Quality Food Awards earlier in the day.
In this competition The Very Lovely Sauce Company won the judges over with its Gingerbread Caramel Sauce which took the overall Gold Q.Former pop idol turned entrepreneur Gareth Gates picked up the Innovation Q for his Cuppanut Coconut, Ginger and Turmeric Infusion, while Green Lady Sparkling Tea came top of the Small Producer’s Drinks category.Meanwhile, Emily Veg Crisps was awarded the Snacks Gold Q for its Crunchy French Beans, Sugar Snap Peas & Black Edamane.
