Apple Pay coming to Waitrose Customers in the U.K. from launch

Waitrose, one of the UK’s leading supermarkets and part of the John Lewis Partnership, will offer its customers the ability to pay with Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay, when it launches in the UK next month.

Introducing Apple Pay is a continuation of Waitrose’s commitment to mobile technology and to making shopping with Waitrose as convenient as possible for our customers.
Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When a customer adds a credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device and each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

Waitrose’s IT Director, Cheryl Millington, said: “We are delighted to offer our customers access to Apple Pay in all of our stores from launch. This convenient service will add to the ease and choice of payment options in Waitrose while providing a secure and private experience, and is very much part of the continued evolution of our in-store proposition.”

Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by their credit and debit cards. In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.
