Aldi awarded ‘Supermarket of the Year’ at Retail Industry Awards 2017
Other awards include ‘Chilled Retailer of the Year’ and ‘Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year’
Discount supermarket Aldi has been crowned Supermarket of the Year at the prestigious Retail Industry Awards for the third consecutive year, beating stiff competition from Tesco and Morrisons.
The award, judged by an independent panel of industry experts, was given to Aldi in recognition of its longstanding commitment to delivering products of the highest quality at unbeatable prices to its customers.
Aldi has scooped up two other honours at the award – Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year for a third consecutive year and Chilled Retailer of the Year for the first time.
These accolades add to an already amazing awards season for Aldi, having recently been named Favourite Supermarket at the Good Housekeeping Food Awards 2017.
Julie Ashfield, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi, said: “We’re thrilled to have been named Supermarket of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards for the third year in a row – proving our dedication to providing our customers with great quality products at exceptional prices.
“We are also delighted to have received two other acknowledgments across the business, which for us is testament to the commitment of our buyers who are continuously sourcing products that will excite our customers.”
This win follows the announcement of Aldi’s record results for its latest financial year, with growth accelerating in 2017 as rising number of British shoppers switch their supermarket. Sales in the UK and Ireland reached £8.7bn in the year to 31st December 2016 (2015: £7.7bn) – an increase of 13.5% (2015: 12%) despite overall grocery market growth of just 0.5% during the period.[i]
