Zaandam, the Netherlands – Tomorrow, November 1, 2012, Albert Heijn will open its first pick-up point in the Dutch town of Heemstede (20 kilometers west of Amsterdam), bringing even greater shopping convenience to customers living or working in or close to the town. Customers will be able to pick up groceries they order online at the Albert Heijn Pick Up Point at a time to suit them. This first pick-up point will help Albert Heijn gain initial experience of this new service in the Netherlands, to the benefit of any such future pick-up points in the country.
By opening its first Albert Heijn Pick Up Point, Albert Heijn is launching a new, convenient way for customers to do their daily shop, enabling them to go online to order at ah.nl and then collect their groceries at a time and location to suit them. A visit to a pick-up point is quick and easy: an Albert Heijn employee will place the order directly into the car; customers will have their shopping within minutes and can quickly move on to wherever they need to go next. Of course, customers may also opt to collect their shopping by motorbike or bicycle.
Customers today have very busy lives, making convenience and flexibility more important than ever. Which is why Albert Heijn offers a wide range of alternatives for customers to do their shopping: at an Albert Heijn store, having groceries delivered to their home, or picking up groceries at an Albert Heijn Pick Up Point. The new pick-up point is the latest addition to these options, offering Albert Heijn customers the opportunity to collect their shopping whenever they want – a real advantage for anyone who feels that there’s sometimes just not enough time in the day to pop into the store or arrange to have their shopping delivered at home.
Broadening online services
At the end of 2011, Ahold unveiled its new online growth strategy, which involves expanding its online services to customers; the launch of this first Albert Heijn Pick Up Point is a key milestone in achieving this. Other such initiatives include the mobile ordering function in Appie, the acquisition of bol.com and the regional expansion of the Albert Heijn delivery service.
More information about the Albert Heijn Pick Up Point is available at www.ah.nl/pickup (in Dutch). The Heemstede Pick Up Point will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 8.00 am to 10.00 pm.
