Aldi and Lidl will be facing a new competitor in their home market. Torgservis, a Russian price breaker, which would be up to 20% cheaper, will open a first store in Leipzig on January 29th.

The arrival of the new competitor had already been announced previously, but will now it is being materialized. According to various German media, Torgservis plans to open at least 100 stores in eastern Germany via its subsidiary TS Markt. The brand would operate under the name Mere, the brand with which the retailer is already active in Romania.

The first point of sale, with an area of ​​approximately 1000 m², is located in a building formerly occupied by Aldi and will employ ten people. The assortment would comprise 70% of cheap food, supplemented by pet products, household and drugstore items and clothing.

The Russian discounter Torgservis is also active in Romania, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and China and also eyeing Poland.
