German hypermarket chain Real is bundling its management capacities and thereby further optimizing its organizational structures. As the supervisory board of the METRO GROUP sales division decided on Friday, with immediate effect, Didier Fleury will become CEO of Real Germany in addition to his current role as Head of the Real Group Committee and CEO Real International. The hitherto CEO Roland Neuwald will change to the position as COO Real Germany. Neuwald stays in charge as METRO GROUP Representative at the German Retail Federation HDE. Patrick Müller-Sarmiento will become new Managing Director Food at Real Germany.
“Real has taken a good development over the past years: the German business has been new positioned and the international activities have grown to a business with high potential”, said Olaf Koch, CEO of METRO AG and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Real Holding GmbH. “But we have still some way ahead of us. In order to accelerate the repositioning and to get Real back on a sustainable growth path we have to set up the organization as efficient and powerful as possible.”
The 56-year old Frenchman Fleury already worked as CEO of Real International since 2008. “We are convinced that Didier Fleury is exactly the right man for this challenge”, said Olaf Koch. “He is a high profile hypermarket expert with decades of international experience in different countries.”
As of October 1st, Patrick Müller-Sarmiento will become the new Managing Director Food at Real Germany. As Senior Partner and Head of Consumer Goods and Retail at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants Müller-Sarmiento has been closely involved in the restructuring program of Real Germany over the past years. It is planned that Klaus Sauer, who is Managing Director Food since April 2007, will assume a new position within METRO Group. Bernd Mediger – COO Real Germany since April 2010 – will take over the responsibility as General Manager real estate within Real Germany.
“We would like to thank Didier Fleury, Roland Neuwald, Klaus Sauer and Bernd Mediger for their achievements and contributions to the positive development of Real and their readiness to support the Group furthermore in their new roles and with new responsibilities. Moreover, we would like to welcome Patrick Müller-Sarmiento in our company”, said Koch.
Dr. Hans-Jörg Gidlewitz stays in charge as CFO Real Germany and International, such as Jörg Kramer, Managing Director Non-Food, and CHRO Andreas Schrödinger.
