Morrisons Pull Out of MFest
By Laura Elliott.
UK retailer Morrisons was forced to cancel the much-publicised ‘MFest’ music & Food festival in the wake of adverse weather conditions forecast for the weekend. The flagship food and music festival was scheduled to take place at Harwood House, Leeds this weekend, and was set to feature performances from musicians such as Inspiral Carpets, The Human League, Bob Geldof, and former Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, alongside celebrity chefs Aldo Zilli and Atul Kocchar.
However, organisers were forced to cancel the event due to weather conditions which meant they were unable to guarantee the safety of the public. In a statement, a spokesperson said that “It is with our deepest regret that due to the adverse weather conditions leading up to this event in conjunction with the extreme weather warning as issued by the met office for the weekend, we were left with no other decision than to abandon this weekend’s MFEST.
“This was a joint decision made between the promoter, the production team, health and safety and Harewood House. We sought advice from a number of agencies including Leeds City Council before making the decision. The public’s health and safety is of paramount concern, therefore it would be irresponsible to continue however disappointed we all are. Information on ticket refunds will be issued on Monday”.
