The food industry succeeds in developing new attractive and sustainable products and in improving the existing ones. It is of great significance for the economy in Germany to promote the existing innovative power also in terms of the progressing digitalisation.

The development of the databased life cycle assessment for entire product lifecycles is just one example of the high potential of IT-based solutions in the food chain. Block chains, metagenomics and the sequencing of the entire value chain will soon open up hitherto unknown possibilities for the food production – contaminations can be very accurately forecasted using big data management and thus more effectively avoided; and per app the customer can already find out in the supermarket which resources have been implemented for his shopping basket.

The digitalisation also offers high potential for the cooperation within the value chain. Through the digitalisation of the business and trading processes, sales-related conflicting goals can be reduced and the efficiency of the entire global food system increased.

The DIL is extremely well-positioned through the establishment of the Food Data Group and will live up to its pioneering role also in these young fields of development.

The Innovation Food Conference has been creating the basis for a modern and connected industry since 2011.

Anuga in Cologne is the largest business platform for food and beverages worldwide. Over 7,200 exhibitors from 100 countries are expected to participate.
